Laura from Brazil used to be an architect, and she decided to study in Canada to improve her English and professional skills. Her first co-op for Commerce & Marketing Co-op Diploma program just started. “I am working at interior design company which specializes in residential and commercial properties as a project manager assistant. Here, I can apply my architecture experience into my current co-op.”

So, as much as she liked her work, her supervisor has been enjoying working with her. “She has been doing great. She has been working with our project managers doing design work, drawings, and coming to the sites, and applying it working with clients. It’s been fantastic with VanWest College. It is a great opportunity with working with students with enthusiasm with great educational background and wanted to integrate to Vancouver.”

How does co-op program work?

First, students take the theories and skills they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it in various workplaces around Vancouver and Kelowna. After having gained new perspectives in their fields, they then go back to class and have a chance to reapply their experience to further enrich their studies.

As of June 2017, there will be 35 students from Brazil, Japan, Korea, Libya, Mexico, and Taiwan enrolled in these career training programs!
