English and Volunteer Experience is a Kelowna-specific option that combines classroom learning with community activities, local visits, and volunteer opportunities. It is designed for students who want to practise English while developing stronger connections with the local community.
Our current vocational program in Kelowna is the Hospitality Management Co-op Diploma, which includes six months of academic study and six months of co-op. The program runs for 14 months in Kelowna and 15 months in Vancouver due to differences in the scheduled program structure. We may expand our Kelowna vocational offerings in the future, including the possible addition of the Early Childhood Education Certificate. At present, the ECE program is offered at our Vancouver location.
Vancouver offers a fast-paced student experience with multicultural neighbourhoods, public transportation, restaurants, shopping, beaches, parks, museums, and entertainment. A larger city can create more opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds and use English in varied social situations.
Our downtown location also makes it practical to join after-class activities without travelling far from the city centre. Depending on the schedule, our Vancouver events may include sports, museum visits, neighbourhood tours, beaches, markets, and trips to nearby attractions.
Vancouver may suit you if you enjoy busy surroundings and want many options for how to spend your evenings and weekends. It may feel less suitable if you prefer quieter neighbourhoods, shorter distances, and a slower routine.
Kelowna provides a smaller-city experience shaped by Okanagan Lake, beaches, hiking routes, cycling paths, parks, and a compact downtown cultural area. It can be easier to build familiar routines and regularly see the same classmates and community members.
Students can use local buses, walking, cycling, or e-scooters for many daily journeys. A car may be more useful for trips to regional parks or destinations outside the central area, but it is not required for every student. Regional routes and real-time planning tools are available for travel within Kelowna.
Kelowna may suit you if you want outdoor recreation, a smaller community, and a calmer place to focus on English or hospitality studies.
Your total cost depends on more than the city. Accommodation type, distance from location, meal arrangements, transportation use, course duration, and personal spending habits all affect your budget. We provide student housing information for both locations. Available options include homestay, Vancouver residences, and the Kelowna Copeland Residence.
Homestay gives students a chance to live with a local family, experience Canadian routines, and practise English outside class. Our host families are selected and monitored through our homestay process. In Vancouver, our Thurlow residence is listed as a five minute walk from location, while our Nelson residence is approximately eight minutes away. We also list an Oakridge option with a longer commute.
In Kelowna, Copeland Residence is approximately a 15-minute walk from the location and is close to restaurants, shopping, public transportation, and other daily services. Availability and booking conditions vary. Vancouver generally gives students a larger transportation network, while Kelowna offers regional bus services and a more compact downtown. Do not assume that Kelowna will always be less expensive or that Vancouver will always be more convenient. Compare current housing fees, commuting costs, meal plans, and the distance between your accommodation and location.
